Of the first dogs of the breed in England,only a few came from western Siberia. Later imports were from the Ural Mountains and the Island of Novaya Zemblya and were likewise limited in number. Most numerous of the original dogs and most influential in the establishment of the breed in England were the dogs from the expeditions, which Alexander Trontheim had originally obtained from the area east of the Yenisei River, stretching to the Olenek. All of these were imported before 1914.A very few were brought to England in the mid-1920s, and since then none.

The first importers and establishers of the breed in England were Mr.and Mrs. Ernest Kilburn-Scott.Mr.Kilburn-Scott was a member of the Royal Zoological Society and in its cause had made a tri to the Archangel in 1889, from which he had brought back a dog. This was the chocolate-brown Sabarka ("the fat one " in Russian).Sabarka was not from the same district in Siberia as Fridtjof Nansen's dogs.He came from at least 900 miles west of the Olenek River.Mr.Kilburn-Scott had sympathetically bought Sabarka to save the young puppy from providing the natives a "feast." He was said to be typical in many good points of the breed such as head, stand-off coat, curled tail and good carriage. soon after this, Mr.Kilburn-Scott brought in the famous cream-colored bitch, whitey Pechora. The mating of Sabarka and Whitey Pechora produced a daughter Neva, who went to Lady Sitwell, newly interested in the breed.

Earliest mention of the Samoyed seems to have been in a 1891 advertisement in the English papers placed by Mr.Kilburn-Scott under the Foreign Dogs and Various Classifications. It read:

Samoyeds were first shown at the Leeds show in 1893 in the Foreign Dog class.

Lady Sitwell later imported a snow-white dog named Musti from northern Russia. When Musti was mated

with Whitey Pechora in 1901,the white proved dominant, and the litter was the beginning of all-white

Samoyeds in England. It included the famous dog Nansen, who swept the shows in 1903,and the great

bitch Olgalene. A third dog, Rex Albus, did not affect the breed as much.

when the Kilburn-Scotts wanted more stock, they went through Alexander Trontheim, who had obtained

Nansen's dogs in 1894.In 1899,while selecting dogs for the Duc d'Abruzzi, Trontheim chose Russ for

the Scotts. This dog was bred to Kvik, the bitch brought back by Dr.Kotelitz when he was the

physician on the Jackson-Harmsworth Expedition in 1897.This breeding produced Ch. Pearlene, famous

for her beautiful head and ears and for her progeny.
